In the true spirit of 'Malaysia Boleh', Malaysian Twitter users propelled Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim to the dizzying heights of Internet notoriety.

Reacting to Rais' statement about the 'dangers' of Facebook , Twitter and other social media, Malaysian Internet users have used the very mediums he condemned to rebut his views.

NONE Their endeavours have borne hilarious results. A Twitter thread dubbed 'yorais', a shortened version of the phrase 'Yo' Rais', propelled itself into the top 10 Twitter trending topics.

'Yo' Rais' is verbal wordplay on the popular joke phrase 'Yo Momma', an euphemism for bad jokes about yes, your joke target's mother.

Around 6pm on Jan 19, 'yorais' became the 6 th most popular topic. Two hours later, it peaked in 3 rd place.

On Twitter , a trending topic is a subject generating the most buzz or conversations on Twitter . Twitter trends can be viewed either by logging into the site or through trend monitoring sites such as monitter.com.

Stand-up comedians in the making

It all started when Twitter user bongkersz made the following Tweet : "Rais Yatim is so ancient he should be in the movie Year One. # yorais ".

It wasn't long before other Malaysian users started making their own jokes about Rais and tagging their Tweets with the tag #yorais.

Previously, Rembau parliamentarian Khairy Jamaluddin made sarcastic allusions to Rais' statements about Internet services on Twitter .

tengku razaleigh Even Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah ( right ) has used Twitter to lambast Rais' views saying: "Perhaps Dr Rais wishes for us to be immersed in RTM. All these crowds forming their own opinion could be subversive."

Other prominent Malaysians on Twitter include Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim and PKR senator Zaid Ibrahim.
