Dr Mahathir Mohamad is disappointed that the government has denied him and his successor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi the opportunity to clear their names.

mahathir mohamad 180108 The 84-year-old former premier was responding to the government's decision not to set up a royal commission of inquiry to probe the allegation that he had ‘burned' RM100 billion on corruption and grandiose projects during his tenure.

The allegation was made in a book titled ‘Malaysian Maverick: Mahathir Mohamad in Turbulent Times' penned by former journalist Barry Wain.

In a blog posting oozing with sarcasm, Mahathir said: "Barry Wain must be very happy. He can go on libelling everyone he likes and nothing will happen to him."

"Yet when I repeated to the press the judgment made by the court on Anwar's case I got sued by Anwar for RM100 million. It is now more than three years and the case is still not settled," he added.

Mahathir also noted that the government has yet to release Wain's book, which is being scrutinised by the Home Ministry.

Translate it into Malay

The former premier reiterated that the book should be available to the public.

"I have read a proof copy and I think it is good for the public to read it. In fact it should be translated into Malay. It would be good to know what he thinks of Malaysia, the Malays, Umno and of course the great dictator i.e. me," he said.

"There is no country more rotten, no race more racist, no party more corrupt than Malaysia, the Malays and Umno.

"And of course there is no PM more abusive of his authority than the PM of Malaysia of 22 years. Really Malaysia should revert to being a British colony again," he added.

Previously, Mahathir had threatened to sue Wain, opposition stalwart Lim Kit Siang and Malaysiakini if the commission clears him of any wrongdoing.

"In my 22 years, Petronas paid the government RM126 billion. Petronas paid the government of Abdullah, a total of RM270 billion in five years.

"How was this huge sum spent? There are only empty corridors everywhere," he had added.

Mahathir said the public has a right to know how the RM270 billion in five years was spent.
