Opposition leaders are generally impressed with today's Government Transformation Programmes exhibition, saying many good ideas have been mooted for the administration's six National Key Results Area (NKRA) initiatives.

NONE However, they question whether proper monitoring would be in place to oversee the implementation of these proposals.

Kuala Kerai MP Dr Hatta Ramli welcomed the many ideas exhibited, many of which were contributed by the opposition, but lamented that they should have taken off years ago.

However, he was optimistic about the ideas being brought forward and hoped the government would implement a stringent monitoring system.

On his part, Hatta pledged to scrutinise the annual reports for the six NKRAs that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Idris Jala promised today would be produced.

Najib's election manifesto?

Petaling Jaya MP Tony Pua described the exhibition as part of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's election manifesto for the upcoming 13th general election.

NONE He admitted that there were plenty of good suggestions and when asked if the opposition would be threatened by Najib's latest move, Pua replied, "If he is able to achieve it, yes".

Asked if he thought the civil servants were capable of implementing the proposals, Pua replied "No" without skipping a beat.

He also expressed doubts that cabinet ministers were in full support of the proposals made, such as the one to disclose all government tenders.

He cited his recent three unsuccessful attempts in the Dewan Rakyat to seek more details of the controversial Matrade Convention Centre in Putrajaya.

"There were a lot of good suggestions made (in the six NKRA) but whether the government can really accept all these suggestions is a big question mark," he said.

Transparent political funding

Both Pua and Hatta were two notable opposition leaders at the exhibition this morning and were seen wandering from booth to booth, scrutinising the proposals attached on display stands and quizzing ‘ NKRA lab' officials comprising ministry and government agency representatives.

NONE Hatta commended government plans to introduce legislation that compel disclosure of political funding, a topic covered by the ‘Corruption Lab'.

"It is a good move that would level the playing field," said Hatta, who is PAS treasurer.

Meanwhile, Pua expressed disappointment at Najib's much touted '1Malaysia laboratory' not being presented during the exhibition as promised earlier.

"Najib's own key drivers did not make it to the exhibition and that is a disgrace," said Pua, who is DAP national publicity chief.

According to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Koh Tsu Koon, the 1Malaysia roadmap will only be published later this month after gathering more public feedback .
