Muhyiddin Yassin said today the various suggestions by the MCA leaders to resolve the party crisis would be conveyed to the prime minister tomorrow.
The deputy prime minister said he would also report to Najib Abdul Razak, upon the latter's return from attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow, the outcome of his discussion with the MCA leaders in efforts to find a solution to the crisis.
"The majority of the suggestions (have been accepted). But the final decision will be announced after the prime minister has studied the plan," he told reporters when asked about the latest development following his meeting with the MCA leaders yesterday.
Muhyiddin, who is also the Barisan Nasional deputy chairperson, said he had met and discussed with the leaders of the three squabbling factions and they had made several suggestions to resolve the crisis.
He said there was general commitment from nearly all the leaders whom he met to find a way to resolve the crisis.
Intense leadership tussle
Yesterday, several key MCA leaders had a meeting with Muhyiddin, who had been given the mandate by Najib to tackle the problem by implementing pro-active steps as soon as possible to prevent the crisis from deteriorating.
Last Monday, Muhyiddin that he had given himself a week to find a solution to the crisis and come up with a formula that is agreeable to all the parties concerned.
MCA was plunged into a leadership crisis after the Oct 10 extraordinary general meeting which saw the emergence of factions supporting party president Ong Tee Keat and vice-president Liow Tiong Lai after Ong made peace with deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek.
The situation took a turn for the worse after Ong removed Wanita MCA chief Chew Mei Fun and MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong from the presidential council after they accused him of abuse of power.
Liow's supporters at yesterday's meeting approved declaration 1128 calling on the party to hold fresh elections of the Central Committee (CC) within 60 days.
However, this was rejected by Ong on the ground that any decision made must have the support of the majority of the CC members.
CC to meet on Wednesday
Meanwhile, the MCA central committee will discuss on Wednesday, the outcome of last night's meeting between several key party leaders with Muhyiddin, said secretary-general Wong Foon Meng.
However, he declined to reveal the outcome of the meeting.
"We will bring it (outcome of the meeting with Muhyiddin) to the central committee (CC) for deliberation. Then, we'll let you know," he told Bernama at Wisma MCA here today.
The CC meeting is scheduled to be held at 10am at the party's headquarters in Wisma MCA.
Besides discussion on the outcome of the meeting with Muhyiddin, the central committee is expected to decide on whether the scheduled Dec 5 Annual General Meeting should be postponed.
