MCA secretary-general Wong Foon Meng today advised the party's central delegates not to attend the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) slated for Saturday as it was not recognised by the party.

He said he had issued a letter yesterday to the more than 2,300 central delegates throughout the country.

NONE "This second EGM should not be held as it is in contravention of the party constitution.

"As such, I want to stress that the meeting is not valid as per the MCA constitution and is not recognised," he told reporters at Wisma MCA.

Last month, 16 members of the party's central committee (CC) had requisitioned for the second EGM and the proposal was supported by vice-president Liow Tiong Lai.

The aim of the second EGM is to obtain a mandate from the members to call for fresh party elections.

Meanwhile, at a separate news conference, CC member and EGM chief requisitionist Wong Nai Chee said the EGM would go on as planned.
