MIC picks young lawyer as sec-gen
Lawyer S Murugesan, the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Subang parliamentary constituency in the 2008 general election, has been named as MIC secretary-general.
Lawyer S Murugesan, the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Subang parliamentary constituency in the 2008 general election, has been named as MIC secretary-general.
In making this announcement here today, party president S Samy Vellu said the 42-year-old was chosen due to his experience and exposure and in an effort to infuse the younger generation into the party.
"I have chosen someone young to be the MIC secretary general. This is to show that the party is changing and this is one of the ways for us to attract the younger generation," Samy Vellu said in his closing speech at MIC's 63rd general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre today.
The MIC supremo also named the party's economic bureau secretary Jaspal Singh, 46, as the party treasurer-general. Another appointment was naming P Kamalanathan, 42, the MIC Putera coordinator, as party information chief.
Murugesan ( left ) replaces Dr S Subramaniam who is now the new vice-president.
Likewise Jaspal and Kamalanathan also replaced Devamany and Saravanan respectively. Devamany and Saravanan have also been elected as the new vice-presidents.
