A travel agency is suing Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar and his wife for 'unpaid' business class air tickets from Kuala Lumpur to London and back amounting to RM41,868.

Besides the ticket price, Global Holiday Sdn Bhd is seeking eight percent in interest from the date the summons was issued and also other costs and relief deemed appropriate.

However, Khalid claimed that he paid the full amount to the ticketing agent who issued the tickets to him two years ago.

khalid abu bakar Khalid was then Criminal Investigation Department deputy director 1. In his reply to the plaintiff, he said that the actual cost for the tickets was RM15,000 and not RM41,868 as alleged by the agency.

Khalid ( left ) claimed that he purchased the tickets in 2007 from a ticketing agent at a discounted price as they constituted part of the discounted tickets quota meant for Malaysia Airlines (MAS) employees.

In his reply, Khalid also said that his best friend Teh Kok Wei had introduced him to ticketing agent Tim Lu Yew Huat, who is a valid representative of several travel agencies as well as the manager of Global Holiday, which had close ties with MAS employees.

Khalid is counter-claiming for compensation, damages, immediate relief, legal fees and post-judgment interest of eight percent from the start till the end of the trial.

He also said that the claims made against him was meant to insinuate:

  • That he bought the tickets without paying;
  • That he is enjoying the benefits at the expense of the plaintiff and that;
  • He had behaved "inappropriately" as a police officer

Khalid said that the proceedings have been initiated with malicious intent and this is clearly an abuse of court proceedings.

He also claimed that this is an attempt to threaten and exert undue pressure on him to pay up the amount.

Because of the whole situation, Khalid said that he faced "embarassment" as his colleagues and subordinates perceived him to be a "dishonest" and "unprincipled" person.

This, he claimed, is damaging to his career as the Selangor chief police officer and it affected his dignity.

In the middle of 2008, Khalid said that an officer from the Commercial Crimes Investigation Department had questioned him with regards to a police report filed by the travel agency on the matter.

Moghan & Co filed the summonse on behalf of the plaintiff while Shearn Delamore & Co is representing the defendant.

Hearing has been fixed for Aug 18 at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.
