‘They have to be made answerable to all Malaysians for this project gone awry. They have used the taxpayers’ hard-earned money to finance this botched job.’
Malaysian-Thru-And-Thru: ‘Four key players in the Port Klang Free Zone debacle have been let off the hook by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and will not be called in for questioning’
This is outrageous! How can the very first and early sponsors and initiators of this PKFZ project be let off the hook?
They have used the taxpayers’ hard-earned money to finance this botched job. Najib, where's your 'People first, Performance now' action? It's missing in this case.
Ling and Chan have to be made answerable to all Malaysians for this project gone awry. If this case was being investigated in the West, they would be the first to be called in for investigations.
On Most retired English teachers are still very fit
Steven Foong: The writer asserts that those who support the teaching of mathematics and science in English are selfish city-dwellers and professionals who do not ‘take into consideration those poor kids from the rural areas’.
The writer further asserts that this is because many rural children ‘cannot even recite A to Z’. Therefore, he says, these children will not excel in these two subjects and is thus unfair to them.
May I ask the writer, what is the writing system employed in Bahasa Malaysia? Is it not the same Latin-based alphabet that English uses?
How is it that a child who cannot recite A to Z will have problems with English but not with Bahasa Malaysia?
Some even say that, because many rural parents cannot speak English, their children are at a distinct disadvantage if maths and science are taught in English.
But these are the same people who extol the good old days when our ‘standard of English was second to none in this region if not in the Commonwealth’.
I would like to ask, how many people who benefitted from that period had parents who speak English? Not my parents.
The truth of the matter is, even if we revert maths and science to Bahasa Malaysia so that some will not be at a ‘distinct disadvantage’ in school, they will eventually be in adult life.
On PAS-Umno unity gov't not an option
Kenny Gan: PAS is the weak link in Pakatan and if Pakatan does breakup it will be because of PAS - just like what happened to Barisan Alternatif in 1999.
But even if the parties go their separate ways, there is no going back to the old BN two-thirds majority. The mindset of the voters has changed too much to go back to the old status quo.
Remember that Pakatan didn't exist until after the 2008 general election.
Provided they avoid three and four-cornered fights and given the current disenchantment with BN, the three parties may collectively win enough seats to form the federal government even without a formal coalition.
PAS will be contesting mainly in rural Malay majority seats where the effect of non-Malay distrust will have less impact.
PAS is also unlikely to form a post-election pact with Umno or the party will face an internal revolt and break apart.
If the three parties do not make a post-election pact (highly unlikely if they can govern Malaysia together) then BN will become a minority government depending on support from some of the opposition to get their bills passed.
For sure they will have to change their arrogant style of government.
However, the chance of winning enough seats is much better with a formal coalition which can provide an alternative government as Sabah and Sarawak voters may be convinced to throw their lot in with Pakatan.
But take heart that there is still hope even if the worse happens.
On 'I'm a nobody, why would LKY meet me?'
Venki Sankar: Why do we still continue refering to Tun Mahathir Mohamad as a ‘statesman’ while still indicating that he ‘oozes sarcasm from every pore’?
A statesman is above partisan politics and would have overcome his ego.
Tun Mahathir appears to be nurturing more of these as he goes along! Can we please dress him in proper clothes?
On He's now Dr Abdul Razak Baginda
Siew Wah: Now that political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda has finally got his doctorate degree and is about to take up an appointment at St Anthony's College in Oxford, let's hope that his students would continue to badger him on his acquittal in the infamous trial of ghastly murder of Altantuya Sharriibuu.
