Why are we babysitting Mas Selamat?

vox populi big thumbnail 'Why are we keeping Mas Selamat under the ISA in our jails at the cost of the Malaysian taxpayer? Isn't he Singapore's issue to deal with?'

On Mas Selamat detained under ISA for two years

Malaysian Taxpayer: Dear Home Minister and Malaysian government,

Why are we keeping Mas Selamat under the ISA in our jails at the cost of the Malaysian taxpayer? Isn't he Singapore's issue to deal with?

If there's proof that he had done something wrong, then charge him with it and prove it in court.

If not, deport him to Singapore. You will not spend my tax ringgit like this.

On Manohara: I was treated like an animal

Kumar Krish: If the allegations are proven to be true, then it adds to the long list of abuses of position and power by the royalties.

Sexually abusing and using a razor clearly shows the mental state of the abuser.

In this case, he probably thinks he is above the law and could get away with it easily.

This is yet another embarrassment for the people of Malaysia. We seem to treat Indonesians badly.

The truth must be told and justice must be served.

On Z aid torches Utusan for stoking racial flames

Dr Vincent Ong: Well said, Zaid. I cannot disagree with your words. We are all Malaysians and we are all humans.

Why must politicians and editors stir up racial sentiments among Malaysians?

Let us Malaysians live in peace and harmony, showing concern for one another irrespective of religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

So once again, I appeal to all Malaysians to stop raising racial remarks which could cause racial sentiments. Be mature enough.

Don't destroy this beautiful country for your own personal selfish gain.

I hope we have leaders like Zaid Ibrahim who are far-sighted and not only colour-blind.

On Mansor wins with 5,558 majority

Ken: Even without contesting, BN has lost the Penanti by-election. This can be inferred from PKR Mansor's thumping victory.

Assuming an 80% turnout of the 15,384 registered voters in a BN-PKR fight, this means 12,307 theoretical votes.

The total votes cast in Penanti was 6,994. If we deduct this from the theoretical votes, this makes 5,313 absent votes which may be up for grabs between BN and PKR.

But Mansor garnered 6,052 votes. So mathematically, it was impossible for BN to win even if we assume all the absent votes went to BN.

This would make BN's fifth by-election loss in the Peninsula. Another loss is coming up in Manek Urai. What a loser!

By the way, this must be the first by-election in Malaysian history where there are no complaints of phantom voters.

On Zzzzzz due to record low turnout

Political Observer: I beg to differ. Umno and Barisan Nasional's absence did not cause the recent Penanti by-election to be dull.

Instead, it has allowed for a peaceful by-election to take place without any untoward incidents.

On Banned: First Altantuya, now Perak

Peter Ooi: The mention of Altantunya and Najib will land one in trouble? How absurd. But it is in a land where wearing black or holding a candlelight vigil is a crime.

Najib should take the bull by its horns rather than allowing the police to champion his cause.

Since he maintains that he has no connection to Altantuya, he should allow an inquiry into the whole affair.

Get the most independent panelists from overseas and he should allow himself to be thoroughly grilled on the whole affair.

I am very sure he will come out of it clean and it would silence the critics once and for all.

Otherwise his name would surface whenever Altantunya murder is mentioned. This will not help especially when he is on an overseas trip.

Each time there is a press conference, he would be in suspense because at any time, a question on Altantuya will be asked.

Najib will also be made the butt of joke each time the Mongolian name is mentioned. I am sure the police are not going to charge each and everyone who makes joke out of the Altantuya and Najib issue.

On Two post-mortems later, family still in the dark

Maniam Sankar: It appears uncontradicted that the injured boy was brought to the police station before 7am in a seriously injured condition and only sent to the hospital at 8 30 am.

Should not the police send any injured person for medical attention before continuing their investigations? Aren't there any SOPs on the matter?!

In this case, it certainly looks like the delay in the police station was lethal. Is anyone responsible for this or is Thilak expendable?

On Bkt Koman residents fail to stop goldmine

OnandOn: ‘The court also cannot force the company to make a DEIA now as the time frame had elapsed.' Come on, this is BS.

Example: A food company has being selling their product for more than10 years.

After 15 years, if one of their products causes illness or food poisoning, the food company will also need to face the music and be subject to food safety laws.

As for the officials that approved this goldmine project, just invite them and family members to stay at Bukit Koman for a month.

See how they will react.

On Sikh family in new 'bodysnatching' case

Frankly Xroy: They are at it again. Its called ‘body snatching' and they do it when the person is dead, and so the saying goes ‘dead men tell no tales.'

This is the most preposterous thing to do - to snatch a dead body form the family of a deceased who are in mourning. No sympathy, just inflict more suffering.

Just snatch the body and refuse them any rights while saying he was a Muslim at the time of death.

Why are there so many cases of non-Muslims converting to Islam and making a secret of it so much so even their next-of-kin are not aware of it and are only told of it when that person dies?

We have had enough of such cases. The Islamic authorities seem to find joy in this body- snatching episodes, they seem to find joy in making those who are grieving suffer even more.

The families are told of the conversion only when the person is in a coma or the person is dead.

Then the body-snatching apparatus is put into place, the body is seized- its so inhumane.

I hope someone in government can put a stop to this.

On 2 PPP presidents - one elected unopposed, one chairs first meeting

Lin Thai Oo: This is my personnel view of PPP. I am a non-partisan person.

I see that these two guys are ‘gila kuasa'. PPP is fighting for what? PPP is not relevant at all in BN.

These two guys want the party's top post only for name and ego. Whatever it is, I see Kayeas counting his days.

On Sodomy trial II: The knives are out

Kein: When Anwar's trial starts on July 1, the defence should request that a major anomaly in the charge be corrected.

Anwar was charged under Section 377B of the Penal Code which is for consensual sodomy.

However, his accuser Saiful has publicly insisted that he was forcibly sodomised.

Naturally, the prosecution wants to spare themselves the inconvenience of proving how a frail elderly man with a bad back can force himself on a strapping youth physically bigger and stronger than him, hence the charge under 377B.

But you cannot have a charge for consensual sodomy and the main witness insisting that he was forcibly raped.

So either the charge must be amended to Section 377C for forced sodomy or Saiful must agree in court that sodomy was consensual.

If the charge and the accuser's testimony cannot be matched, it must be thrown out.

But there is a small problem if Saiful were to admit to consensual sodomy.

He had gone to the mosque to swear that he was sodomised without his consent, a very serious action indeed for Muslims.

The effect of changing his story now on the Malay Muslim mind would be well, explosive. So the prosecution has a terrible dilemma.

Such a dilemma would never have occurred if the charges had been based on true events instead of fabricated ones.
