Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today called on the people of Perak to remain calm and not get carried away with the court's decision.

"We will solve the problem," he told reporters in Putrajaya.

The premier, who masterminded the February political coup, added that Barisan Nasional would file an appeal as soon as possible, "probably tomorrow".

Asked whether a fresh state elections should be held, he replied: "I cannot say. That is the absolute discretion of the Sultan of Perak".

On when he would meet Sultan Azlan Shah, he said: "I can see the sultan anytime but it does not matter it (dissolving the state assembly for a state elections ) is the purview of the sultan. I don't have immediate plans to see the sultan."

Najib was also asked if a vote of no-confidence against Mohammad Nizar would be the best way to solve the crisis.

According to the premier, the first step is to file an appeal against the court decision. "Then, we'll take it from there."

BN could still have the upper hand with regards to the state assembly, especially with its numerical strength.

Along with its appointed speaker R Ganesan, the BN bloc can call for an emergency sitting where a motion of no confidence can be moved against Mohammad Nizar.

With its '28 plus 3' assemblypersons as opposed to Pakatan's 28, BN should have no problem in pushing the motion through.

Anwar: Victory for democracy

Meanwhile in Ipoh, the police have deployed a large number of personnel including members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) outside the state secretariat building.

Perak police chief Zulkifli Abdullah said that the strong police presence is to maintain law and order.

He also warned political parties not to hold any illegal assembly or procession.

"The decision proves that the constitution is the highest law of the land. So it is important for all government institutions to respect the spirit of the constitution. This includes the doctrine of separation of powers," he said.

Anwar said the only solution to end the crisis is to immediately dissolve the state assembly and call for a fresh state elections.

Bar Council: People should decide

Echoing a similar view, the Bar Council said the ultimate answer to the political impasse in Perak does not lie with the courts.

"Let them cease all further jostling and manouevering for political power. Let them exhibit statesmanship, let them once again seek the mandate of the people. And let the people decide," he added in a statement.
