On Activist Wong arrested under Sedition Act
Frankly Xroy: Anybody who dreamt that this government by Najib will be more tolerant of criticism must have been dreaming.
They must have been left behind in the Abdullah era. This is a government Of Najib, By Najib for Mahathir. Welcome to Najibocracy!
Wong Chin Huat, you have my support. What is different in your case is that unlike the Hindraf 5, you will be charged in court.
We do not have much confidence in our judicial system to really trust that you will be given a fair trial epecially after seeing how the Perak cases were judged.
We can only hope and pray, pray for your safety and that your sanity to remain intact in view of this incarceration by a government that has specialised in such draconian acts.
We pray that this will make you stronger so that we have right-minded people to let us know the right way.
Meng Yee: There is something the ageing Barisan Nasional does not understand nor comprehend in this new world of information.
When an event or press conference like the one held by Wong Chin Huat is covered, only a small percentage of the population reads of it.
However, when it enters the electronic media, it is open to dialogue and postings. The news is kept alive by people who blog about it or forward it on as e-mails.
After awhile even this dies down unless the news is revived or enters another dimension.
In the case of Wong Chin Huat and his press conference, I was not aware nor did I bother as there are many protest efforts by so many groups.
Thanks to the Malaysian government, however, which through their Gestapo decided to arrest Wong Chin Huat for sedition, this simple press conference has now reach a tipping point where more people blog and dialogue on it.
It has brought awareness and publicity to this event so much so I now will also wear black today.
Thanks to the Malaysian government, more Malaysians will now join in Wong Chin Huat's efforts and hail him as the new and latest hero to enter the long list of martyrs and warriors for a new Malaysia.
1Black Malaysia; Democracy First, Elections Now!
John Johnson: Woe and behold. The powers-that-be are at it again. The police are starting to arrest people who are standing up for their rights.
Our PM is showing his authoritarian rule once again. What has changed? Bloggers are being arrested and even a political leader was arrested after having a meal at a stall.
The way they did this was so sly and secretive that he had to shout to his fellow countrymen that he was being arrested.
Malaysians wake up and stand in front to eradicate this abuse of power and bring back the glory that Tunku Abdul Rahman had for this beautiful country we call Malaysia.
Peter Ooi: Events in the last few weeks really confuse me.
At first we have a town council which is so fearful of a rain tree. To prevent people from converging under this fearful tree, more saplings were planted round it.
Then mentioning Altantuya's name together with others was deemed taboo by our local TV stations.
Now wearing black is a threat to the nation's security to the extent that Wong, an advocate of it, has to be charged under the Sedition Act.
Wow! What else can beat that?
Kumar Krish: Action speaks louder than words.
The police acting illegally in remanding Wong sends out a clear message to the people that there is no room for logic and common sense in the present administration.
It also shows the extent of their stupidity since the showdown will still go on - with more vigour.
On PAS should work with Pakatan
P Dev Anand Pillai: It looks as though the agent provocateurs in PAS who work for the BN have done the infiltrating well and have managed to convince PAS supporters in Penang to go against their own coalition members.
This is the main weakness of any coalition effort by the opposition parties in Malaysia. The BN ensures that there is never an opposition coalition that can stay together.
If PAS claims to have very educated and wise people in its ranks, it should know that it will never be able to reach federal power as long as it constantly falls into these easy traps set by BN.
PKR is cleansing itself and putting leaders who are able to take the heat of when in the top seats of power, therefore the process must be allowed to be carried out.
Umno and BN, too, have put up a lot of rookies before during their heyday and the people did not complain.
If PAS just can't work together in an electoral pact with the DAP and PKR, then it will be better to just give BN all the 222 seats in Parliament. PAS, please learn how to play smart.
On Zambry protecting higher ideals
Maniam Sankar: My appeal to the DYMM Sultan Perak: Please understand that the farce that is going on in the courts can be traced directly to your actions, Tuanku.
You must undo what you precipitated and consent to Speaker Sivakumar's request to postpone the assembly. Then, Tuanku, convene an all-party meeting.
There can be no victors from the ongoing circus. Your leadership should demand better.
On Gerakan offers to help Mano in Kota Alam Shah
P Dev Anand Pillai: I hope that Kota Alam Shah assembly person M Manoharan will not resign from his seat and allow the BN room to stage a coup de'tat in Selangor.
This is just mere spin used by the BN to get the public all worked up about a so-called absent assembly person.
Manoharan would be there representing his constituents if he had not been incarcerated. Despite being an ISA detainee, he won handsomely.
This goes to show that the electorate of Klang does not believe in politically-motivated detention as allowed under the ISA.
They sent a message to the government that you may detain good people but we will still vote for them.
To give up now is not wise and right, even if he is incarcerated for long. He has managed to show the world that Malaysia is a country that does not practice what it preaches.
On Koh refuses to help Penang in land scam probe
Enraged: How come the ex-CM cannot be forced to answer before this investigation? Penang is a poor state and cannot afford to pay such a hefty compensation to this Tang.
Something fishy going on here.
This is so terribly unfair and makes my blood boils to read about such mishandling and corruption (I suspect there was a high degree of this going on) by the previous, good-for-nothing ex-Penang state government.
Peter Ooi: I consider Koh's refusal to help Penang in the land scam probe as highly irresponsible.
He must know that the compensation paid out came from our people in Penang.
If he does not feel the pain of the loss of so much money, we do.
Koh should be bold enough to come forth to help clean up the mess that he left behind.
If he does, all Penangites would appreciate it.
