The Ipoh High Court today issued an ex-parte order granting custody of three children who were forcibly converted to Islam by their father to their mother M Indira Ghandi.

According to legal advisor A Sivanesan, who was in court today, the order was issued in chambers this afternoon.

mccbchst religious society conversion pc 220409 indera Currently two of the children Tevi Darsiny, 12 and Karan Dinesh, 11 are with Indira while the youngest child, one-year-old Prasana Diksa, is with her husband K Pathmanathan, who has since assumed the name Mohd Redzuan Abdullah.

The court also instructed Mohd Redzuan to return Prasana to his wife and ordered the police to provide assistance Indira with regards to this.

The court has set May 12 to hear the case.

Indira, whose live turned topsy-turvy after discovering that her husband, had converted to Islam last month and converted to their children without her knowledge, has vowed to battle out the matter in court.

Restraining order obtained

In a recent exclusive interview with Malaysiakin i, she also claimed that her husband had converted their three children without their presence and by using their birth certificates.

Indira has sought refuge with a relative in fear that Islamic officials would take the two children away since Mohd Redzuan had obtained a Syariah Court order giving him custody of the children.

However, Indira has refused to accept the Syariah Court order.

Meanwhile, Sivanesan said the Islamic Department which obtained the order on behalf of Mohd Redzuan should revoke it as the court does not have any jurisdiction on Indira, who is a Hindu.

The lawyer added that his client also obtained a restraining order against Mod Redzuan from having access to the children without his wife’s permission or a court order.

“We also got an injunction against the husband from entering the family home until this matter is properly solved,” he said.

Yesterday, the cabinet announced a directive that a parent who converts cannot convert his or her children without the approval of the spouse.
