Peace-lovers stand united against the Israeli’s attacks in Gaza and they want the Israeli army to back off from Palestinian’s land and their leaders brought to international court for war crimes or genocide. The Palestinians deserves a sovereign state.

This was decided by the United Nations a few decades ago but unfortunately the decree by the UN was never implemented by the UN Security Council. Today, I can hear so many voices from world leaders for a treaty for permanent peace in Gaza.

I fully agreed with the call for permanent peace. The Palestinian struggle is not a religious issue but a humanitarian one. The ‘rights to exist’ is not only for the Israel but for Palestine too.

While we are shadowed by the Palestinian issue, let us not forget about the war against the Tamil community in Sri Lanka. The world has closed their both eyes to Sri Lanka ethnic war and even after so many calls for a truce between the LTTE and the Sri Lanka government, nothing has come close to peace there.

While the Sri Lanka government has successfully taken over the de facto capital of the Tamil Tigers (the town of Kilinochchi), it would seem that the call for peace has been pushed aside by the Sei Lankan government which is now counting on wiping out the rebels.

Who will speak for the Tamil community in Sri Lanka? Why we do not dare speak for them even though it’s an open secret that the Sri Lankan government is going after Tamil civilians and terrorising their daily lives?

The war in Sri Lanka was not about the Tamils or the Sinhalese but is yet another humanitarian issue. If the world closes their both eyes, who will speak for the Tamil community there?

Conventionally, a war should be conducted between an army with another army and not by an army upon civilians. It’s totally different in north Sri Lanka which is predominantly occupied by the Tamil community.

This area was the tourist destination once upon time but today the war has changed that region into a graveyard for Tamil civilians. There is tangible evidence of the genocide in this territory while the remaining alive there, are suffering from state-sponsored prejudice.

Unfortunately, the world is not bothered about this.

As long as their right to exist as a Tamil community is denied to them, then this war will continue and I daresay the rebels will prevail even though the Sri Lanka army has successfully brought the whole territory under their control.
