I refer to the Malaysiakini report Quit BN: Gerakan has another option .

The writers seem to be making a very good case for Gerakan. Probably these two guys may not be aware of the facts and as such believe that Gerakan is an equation to be dealt with within BN with the view that this party is a very important and integral part of the BN.

Gerakan was ruling Penang only with the benevolent attitude shown to them by Umno and MCA. If these two parties had their way, they would welcome the news that Gerakan is leaving BN. For years now and being old enough to know Malaysian politics, MCA has never had a liking for Gerakan and the best thing for Umno Penang is to have Gerakan out.

Notice that MCA has said nothing for they are true BN members and when Gerakan said they want to leave, MCA again was quiet.

Looked at closely, Gerakan has nothing to offer BN, and if we want to be frank, Gerakan needs BN like a human needs his heart. No Umno/BN and Gerakan becomes cannon fodder. PKR? What can Gerakan give PKR it does not already have? It has Penang and wants to keep it, and if they have to fight Gerakan in the next GE they will have it easier, rather than Umno and MCA put together.

If Gerakan joins PKR it will only be a PR coup for PKR which won't have a lasting effect and it will have DAP feeling very annoyed. You will notice that when they did the by-election at Permatang Pauh, Gerakan's Dr Toh Kon Woon was not in the least coveted by DAP nor seen with any DAP leader, nor praised for his crossing over either.

Basically, Toh and Tan Kwee Kong of Gerakan, and Tan Yee Kew of MCA are now the ‘politically unwanteds’ and they will fade into the sunset.

Not forgetting Gerakan's position now, their best bet is to stay in BN which they will as I believe if anybody leaves first it will be the small parties in East Malaysia like Sapp, a satellite party, which will be non-existent within 5 years.

To know Sabah better, Jeffrey Kitinganand his brother Joseph will show you that even brothers are nothing, so who is Anwar? Here today and gone tomorrow. The only parties worthy of mention in the Malaysian history of politics are Umno, MCA, MIC and the opposition DAP and PAS with Gerakan as a side dish, and PPP as a historical fact.

The rest, besides the East Malaysian groupings, which have dozens of offshoots, will be defunct in 10 years. This includes PKR which came about by a merger between Keadilan and a party belonging to the longest-serving opposition member without a seat, and that is Syed Husin Ali and his what you call it party.

Go out there and you wont find one person in a thousand who will know the name of the party that merged with Keadilan. I will only give Syed Husin Ali an A for effort, nothing else. Keadilan was his swan song in politics, and a fitting one, as he finally had his five minutes of fame joining PKR.

My final analysis is that the Gerakan should disband as they are an unwanted party filled with ‘has beens’ who now want to crossover for their five minutes of fame with Anwar. Sad the party could not last. Wonder what Toh can now tell PKR. After 30 years of politics with Gerakan and BN, he finally realised that he was with the wrong party.

So without saying more and as a strong supporter of the BN parties, I ask Gerakan to join PKR, for we need such parties like them to be in opposition. Good for nothings, we call them. They have grass, but no roots. Fighting them in the next GE will be child's play, just ask DAP.

For years DAP felt they could get Penang, and they did, and if not for the tsunami , I think some day they still would have. Remember Koh's immediate remark when he lost Penang? He said he wanted to resign, and that Gerakan had no direction anymore. His meaning is that they should fade away into history.
