Shame! Cried out my spirit
My soul ripped apart, my tears dry
You took him under the shroud of lies
You clipped his wings maimed his feet
You silenced a nation's conscience
Led astray the reasonable jolted the sane
From Madiba to Xanana
Bhagat to Sitara
One person's terror is another's freedom
Decision is rule, rule law and law rules
Man elects man unreservedly
Only to imprison fellow men freely
The layperson looks on tongue-tied
Wondering why the tide hampers the mind
Citizens are stripped of irony
As masked faces return their query
Immigrants wonder at the dusk
See the sun set on their destiny
Just like the hills you demolish
Like the rivers you bleed
And the forests you mutilate
Punishment is meted to the hapless
The feeble labourer awaits justice
The unpaid worker cries for attention
There is little to do but fight
Surrender to such irreverence is impossible
But fight what? Fight who?
It is but a castle unreachable
A wall insurmountable
A bill no one passed
An opinion never asked
Ah, but the voiced truth is cacophony
To a political agenda devised hastily
To serve the well-fed the greedy
The tyranny continues, unfettered, unrevised
Numbed citizens fed a fallacy of unity
See their reflection in the eyes of the detainee
