I refer to the Malaysiakini article An unfounded, yet all-assuming article .
The writer of this letter amuses me as he/she has the same writing ability as Helen Ang and I dare say style as well, and again I repeat, it will sound like rhetoric to many Malaysiakini readers.
Firstly, I never said anyone educated anywhere in the world was better or worse. Secondly, I said Helen and now maybe you, were educated in the west and as such exude western ideas, including not wanting to be admonished, criticised or complained at, and the first reaction to such a situation is to lash out.
Seeing how you completely missed my point, I will repeat it once again, and before you preach how Anwar Ibrahim was accused with trumped up charges, your accusations of Dr Mahatir Mohamad are nothing but the same.
You find one charge against him, get your group together, report to the police and charge him. Go on , do it, but stop with your broken-record commentary of his wrongdoings, and also the comparison with Hitler.
You insult all Malaysians and Asians with this comparison. Our fathers and their parents suffered during Hitler’s time and during the Japanese occupation, many Chinese, Malays and Indians , and also the British died fighting in the war. So please don’t step on their graves.
I will repeat Dr Mahatir’s challenge to you: "Find my wrongdoings and charge me". Even in the V K Lingam trial he repeated the same thing. So please take on his challenge, to not talk but report him to the police.
Next, all leaders are in the public eye and can be judged by the people, and what may be a good idea for some is a bad one for others, so I will accept your views of Dr Mahatir.
But please stop hurling accusations at him, but work to get him. He did what he did to Anwar and we will never know the truth, so don't think you do. I did not and make no mention of it.
You also should not claim to know the rights and wrongs of Anwar, as though you know him. I lived and experienced his rule, so I will keep my views to myself and also my judgement of him.
You also seem to be unaware of all the suffering that economic hardship has had on developing nations. For example, Dr Mahathir was widely criticised when he rejected the recovery package offered by the IMF during the height of the 1997 Asian financial crisis.
However, time has proven that it was the right move as some developing countries that had taken the aid have since been shackled by the chains of western loans. They are still struggling financially.
I did not attack Helen, I was merely stating my point. You seem to think the purported crossing over of 30 members of parliament will "liberate" the nation. Really?
If you think that racial politics or racial groups do not exist in the west, you are sorely mistaken. There are many groups in America fighting for the rights of their ethnic groups, for example black civil rights groups. The Asians, Africans, and Middle Easterners living in Europe have also formed groups to protect their rights.
Race-based politics practiced in the right form are beneficial in fostering good racial relationships. It’s just that here, lately, corruption has caused these groups to lose their way. Race groups also helped heal the nation when it was at its darkest hour. The leaders of such race groups must not be forgotten for their tireless efforts in nation-building.
Lastly, please don't insult our eastern culture. The west has a proven track-record of taking advantage of the east. But it must also be noted that the east was doing and inventing things long before the west even contemplated any such action.
Democracy is not a western ideal. Please take the time to learn what democracy is before you espouse all its good. The democracy that will work well in our country will be one tailored to suit our special needs, not one mimicking a western ideal.
