Right to DNA test must rest with individual
Om Prakash | Jul 21, 08 4:18pm

The BN government must rid itself of out-dated, textbook type cabinet ministers. The change under Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi must be complete within two years before he resigns.

The Umno elections will determine the actual scenario for the next two years before a change of leadership. It would be detrimental to back track to please Umno in any form or manner.

Umno is the cause of most of the civil unrest and general unease. It is paramount that the judiciary and the police force be re-invented so that both of these institutions be trusted and respected again.

The basic individual right to agree for DNA test must rest with the individual - the law cannot be used to demand it.

Criminal investigations cannot take the easy way out to infringe on anyone's basic right just because the law enforcement authorities cannot guarantee the impartiality and confidentiality of DNA tests.

Like it or not, even criminals must be protected against unfair means of prosecution because such a system will be reflective of an educated and highly-evolved society.

But then again, how can a society be considered such when we are still practicing racial politics with an out-dated constitution which has projected the non-Malays as second-class.

After 50 years, the special privileges are still being demanded and this has eventually corrupted that segment of society under the manipulation of Umno. It’s a disgrace.

The prime minister must be bold and proceed to totally dismantle corruption and re-institute a highly respectable and trusted judiciary and police force even if it means replacing unworthy cabinet ministers with highly respected and trusted individuals be they politicians or not.
