Is this whole Anwar sodomy debacle a big show? The question begs to be answered.
I, like the rest of Malaysia, have been watching the drama unfold. I hear talks of conspiracy, death threats and everyone seems to have already made up their minds that the government is guilty.
But if you really take a step back and look at the whole situation, you'll see plenty suspect acts on both sides of the fence. I find it strange that we forget that actions speak louder than words.
Firstly, ask yourself, what has actually happened? A man made a police report against Anwar of rape. Should they ignore him? Can they ignore him? Isn't it their duty to investigate?
So they investigate. Now, have they (the police) detained Anwar? Have they beaten him? No.
At the same time, Anwar flees to the Turkish Embassy because he says his life is in danger. Wow, sensational news it was. Suddenly, Malaysia is like Zimbabwe where political rivals are assassinated.
Anwar claimed his life was in danger. Fine. What about his family? Wouldn't they be as viable a target? What kind of man runs off without his family when they are at just as much risk?
Or maybe, there was no real threat at all.
Next, is this a government conspiracy? Was his aide planted there by his enemies? If so, what kind of spy would be stupid enough to take pictures at his boss' office and then make them readily available to the public?
Isn't it convenient that those pictures surfaced one day after the police report was lodged?
It worries me that no one looks at other possibilities other than what one side is saying. After all, isn't that why we voted for the opposition? Because we wanted a choice?
Because we 'thought' and 'reasoned' that an alternative was needed? Just because you have faith in your leaders doesn't mean you switch of the old brain and stop making choices.
In light of the current issue, I think people should ask themselves, if anything, this one question.
Who is benefitting right now from this entire circus?
Ask yourself.
