I refer to the Malaysiakini report Embattled leader comes out swinging .
It has become quite apparent that this Umno-led government will go to any lengths, including destroying the nation, to serve their own purposes. It has become glaringly clear that this is the modus operandi of this government and this is no exaggeration.
There is a saying that you can't fool all the people all the time and the truth of that statement is beginning to show.
The latest allegation against Anwar for sodomy is one and less then one percent of the population believes it. But the Umno diehards - who are a significant number - would like to have everyone believe it so that they can get rid of Anwar and satisfy their own greedy motives.
As Raja Petra so rightly puts it, when a statutory declaration was made alleging certain misdeeds by the deputy prime minister and his wife, it was immediately labeled a lie by the prime minister with the police coming out with statements that they were going to investigate Raja Petra rather than those alleged to have committed the alleged crimes.
The prime minister came to the defence of his deputy and his wife before any police investigation could take place.
Yet, when Anwar denied this latest sodomy incident ever happened - an allegation which the majority of God-fearing Malaysians find impossible to belief - the prime minister says, ‘He will of course deny it’.
May I ask the PM if this is the Islam Hadhari that he speaks about, the moderate face of Islam that he preaches to the West about?
I see this latest allegation against Anwar as an opportunity to stop the upcoming debate on the petrol price hike between Anwar and an Umno stalwart and also to derail the planned mammoth anti-fuel price hike rally in Petaling Jaya this Saturday.
The allegation is also made now due to the fear that Anwar will lead PKR to take over the reins of the federal government and the fact that Anwar was about to stand for election to re-enter Parliament.
Essential projects in Penang have been put off and the only reason I see for this is because with an opposition government in place, no Umno or Barisan crony would be able enrich themselves at the rakyat ’s expense.
They would rather play a waiting game and only undertake the project when they’re sure to be able to make some improper profits. Never mind if the project cost escalates by a few hundred percent - the reasoning is that the higher the cost the more money ‘to be made’.
The price of petrol was raised notwithstanding the fact that we are a petrol exporting nation and that we sell our oil for a better price than for the oil we import. We are a net producer of oil but the accounts of Petronas are kept a secret.
They are not revealed because they will reveal a lot about the way this government operates.
The general public has a right to know what happens in Petronas and the prime minister - who is elected by the people - has a moral duty to let the people know.
Petronas cannot hide under the provision that it does not have to reveal its accounts and that it only reports to the PM. There can be no secrecy about this as the PM is accountable to the people and the people want to know.
An elderly friend of mine commented yesterday, ‘The way things are going we'd be lucky if we turn out to be like the Philippines but God forbid I think we are headed to be another Burma.'
