The political scene in Malaysia has had a paradigm shift. Ironically, thanks to our current prime minister, we are moving towards a developed, thinking nation. It’s a change - no matter whether we like or not - that every nation has to undergo in order to move forward.

Only when we can come to terms with it can we start moving. Don’t get me wrong , we are not going to become the United States when you wake up, but we are moving towards that. It was just months ago that we looked like we were heading towards becoming a Zimbabwe (no disrespect to that country).

The message to our government is clear, crystal clear and that is - buck up or don’t serve Malaysia. Don’t make us look stupid on he worldwide network because people are judging us based on our politicians.

Don’t make us citizens the butt of jokes because of your inability to be charismatic and smart when you’re being interviewed.

The PM, however, has to be commended for making many sweeping changes which are, of course, criticised before and after he’s made them. That’s what the opposition is there for - to say the opposite with reason.

He has somewhat laid the table open, he is taking out the cards hidden under one by one because he knows his players are weak. Although by doing this does not guarantee he won’t lose the game, not doing it guarantees he’ll lose and in a bluntly unforgivable manner.

So though his players may be weak now he would have made them stronger in the long run. It’s like running with weights on your legs after being chauffeured around since you were born.

An independent ACA, the much asked for juridical reforms and an independent Election Commission, the PM must start delivering. If he is just fooling us, this is not the right time.

Either he succeeds in creating the best driven, transparent government that is a fundamental to becoming a developed nation or the opposition does it. Regardless of who wins, the game Malaysia has just turned around and we have moved a step forward towards becoming a nation of honour that we can be proud of.

Whether Abdullah he did it consciously or accidentally, he has created a turning point in the history of Malaysia.

It is only when we can put our trust on people based on their vision and beliefs and not on what they were born as can we become a developed nation. It took the US a 100 years to come near having a black president.

I hope it does not take that long for us to become a developed nation.
