I refer to the Malaysiakini Vox Populi report Selangor sultan spot on .

Parti Sosialis Malaysia ( PSM) is not a pro-BN party. It is not a party that was allowed to be registered to replace Gerakan in BN. These are rumours spread by mischievous people who are against the return of the socialists to the Malaysian political scene.

Parti Sosialis Malaysia is a socialist party that have been fighting for registration for the past 10 years and even took the Malaysian government to court for refusing registration. It is a party which fights for the rights of the people and has never supported BN.

The party has continuously and tirelessly fought for the rights of plantation workers, urban settlers, workers and students and has been in the forefront opposing the privatisation of health care, the US-Malaysia FTA, the ISA , water privatisation, the fuel price hike and many more neo- liberal policies that have been and are a burden on the people.

To be a PSM member, there is a criteria to meet. Sorry, but you cannot buy your way into PSM. To be a PSM member, you must accept the socialist ideology and be ready to serve the people.

The leadership of PSM are people with strong principles and are always on the ground, fighting the capitalists and their machinery for the betterment of the people. In the last general election, three PSM candidates stood under the PKR banner and two of them won.

Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim (PSM chairperson) won the Kota Damansara seat in Selangor while the ‘giant killer’ Dr Jeyakumar, (PSM central committee member) won in Sungai Siput.

So please do not simply throw unfounded accusations. The registration approval for PSM is the fruit of its struggle and due to its persistence in fighting for freedom of association. It did not come on a silver platter.

The party had to fight for it right up until the federal court. Check out PSM’s website to know more about the party and its struggles. PSM is party from the workers, by the workers, for the workers.
