I refer to the Malaysiakini article Jump, ‘ubah’!
The writer has written very well on the subject matter. Hopefully, it is not jumping from the frying pan into the fire! If it does, then all of us will be roasted or grilled or burnt. However, as things went during 50 years of the Alliance and then the BN regime, and as things go during the two months plus of Pakatan Rakyat, I see a brighter future for all Malaysians.
I emphasise ‘Malaysians’ without any apology; for our future lies in a Government that cares for all Malaysians; and not for a sectarian group or worse still, those who have connections and big cables.
Taking care of the poor, the weak, the women, the children, the handicapped is the best approach. Sad to say, all these years, most of these people are left out in the scheme of things while scheming politicians line their pockets or their cronies; and thereby depleting the rich resources.
One of the recent developments - stopping funds meant for tourism - is indicative of the narrow-mindedness of BN. Another development is the wang ehsan for Trengganu - the 5% oil royalties for the state which came about when the state fell to PAS.
This is a dirty and crooked way to channel funds meant for the state. No matter how much you dislike PAS, you have to give due respect to the voters there. They voted in PAS. Period. Accept defeat like a true gentleman.
Unfortunately, there is nothing to talk about integrity to BN; you might as well talk to the mountain or the cows. To spite those states which went to the opposition shows clearly how narrow-minded BN people could become.
Yet another development was showing anger by demonstrating against Penang, Perak and Selangor. This again showed that some BN members are sore losers, behaving like spoilt brats throwing tantrums and yet how much action had been taken by the police?
Another development which happened before the election was raising of the keris but what action was taken against the Umno Youth leader? Nothing! Was it not sedition? If not, what was it? Yes, the top Umno leaders have repeatedly said that ‘No man is above the law’ but it sounds hollow when no action is taken against their so-called brothers.
Compare and contrast the behaviour of the opposition after several general elections. Did they run wild and demonstrate against the ruling state governments? No! PKR won only one seat in 2004! Did its members demonstrate?
Now that the five Pakatan Rakyat states are going their business to take care of the rakyat, they have a lot of catching up to do for the neglect of the people for so long and need no disturbance.
The voters can see clearly the attitudes of BN and the Pakatan Rakyat. Need I say more ?
Hence, Pakatan Rakyat can make the people happy.
