I refer to the Malaysiakini report MB: RM27m spent by BN reps in two months .
It has been barely three months since coming they came into power and the current Pakatan Rakyat Selangor state government is discovering and revealing to the public various abuses of the previous administration.
The current state government should not only be contented with revealing abuses of its predecessor but should be bold enough to take legal action against these perpetrators if sufficient evidence could be gathered against them for having the audacity to do what they did just because they thought they were with the ruling government back then and any wrongdoing on their part would be hushed up.
God knows how much evidence of wrongdoing were destroyed on the night of March 8 when the previous administration was voted out of office. Like their counterparts in Penang, the new administration found to their dismay offices with empty shelves and lots of shredded documents.
However, the culprits still left behind many skeletons in the cupboard in their haste to clear out their offices. Let us hope that in time, more wrongdoings of the previous administration will be revealed.
It has now come to light that all 54 Barisan Nasional representatives in the previous Selangor state government managed to use up a combined allocation of RM27 million for 2008 in just two months prior to the general election.
Even the Sultan of Selangor was shocked by the revelation. The former MB says they have proof that the money was well spent to help the people. The current state government should demand for this proof and see if the money really went to those who really deserved such monetary aid.
Also, the previous Selangor administration has been involved in some mega-projects costing millions which are now underuntilised and abandoned. I supposed the State Exco Village was the latest in that long line of hugely controversial projects which certainly did not bring any benefits to the people except to those who got the contract to construct it.
Now it has been revealed that a state-owned subsidiary was sold to another party for a pittance. Surely, this warrants an investigation by the current Selangor state government to find out who was responsible and who were the main beneficiaries for these kind of lopsided deals.
Selangor being one of the richer states in the country should not be subjected to such abuses by unscrupulous businessmen who work in cahoots with some equally cunning government officials only to enrich themselves.
These officials should be tracked down and charged in court for dereliction of duty. If the court finds them guilty for their acts of indiscretion, they should be jailed and given the sack as well.
