Will S'poreans one day claim Iskandar region?

I refer to the Malaysiakini report Batu Puteh goes to Singapore .

After some twists and turns in its script, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced that Pedra Branca belonged to Singapore. The judges were persuaded by the ‘major significance’ of a 1953 letter by the then acting Johor state secretary that said, ‘Johor does not claim ownership of Pedra Branca’. The ICJ decided that that statement amounted to Malaysia effectively abandoning the island and allowing the passing of sovereignty to Singapore.

It's simple and straightforward - the Malaysian government wasted the time and money to fight a losing battle. Even a layman would have been be able to give the verdict in favour of Singapore. This was a lost case even before it started. The ‘brilliant’ Malaysian who agreed for this case to be taken to the ICJ is to be blamed.

Malaysia should have ‘just laid clam’ and not solve the ownership - thus it will be a military and security strategy to prevent Singapore from developing the island further. Now the sea boundaries will also change, and thus the reason one of the islands is already a dispute.

That small island is so strategic that it could have a constant monitoring station on eastern side of Johor and if their radar is powerful enough, it could reach the southern tip of Sarawak.

Anyway congratulations to Singapore to win what is ours through rightful, legal means - it was our fault that we could not protect what was ours.

Umno and BN have had a long history of losing Malaysian land without a fight. The biggest example was the loss of Singapore. Now, it seems losing to Singapore is part of Umno's DNA.

While Singapore gathered the best team available to fight the case, we took it very lightly and didn't even bother to hire the best in business.

Our legal team was led by the Attornet-General. This was the man who prosecuted Anwar Ibrahim when it was clear there was no case, who said that the Terengganu Sultan acted unconstitutionally on the MB issue, who lost ‘sure-win’ cases like the Noritta Samsuddin murder case and will anybody be surprised if he loses the current Altantuya case?

The AG's position used to be coveted and revered but now it is in the depths of despair and ridicule. Only when we have a corrupt judiciary, can we win our own cases. Once we go up against international standards, we fail miserably.

To note, will Singaporeans one day, say few decades from now, claim the ownership of Bandar Iskandar since most of the property is bought by them? This case seems to rest on the same principles on which Israel was founded. The myth and propaganda - specifically by Golda Meir - for the creation of Israel in Palestine was that Palestine was a land without any people, and that the Jews were people without a land.

Therefore, it was right and proper to take the land away from the Palestinians. This is Zionist logic. I rest my case.
