Indelible ink: Don't expect gov't to take itself to court

I refer to Malaysiakini report Nazri blame EC chief for ink fiasco .

The blame game begins. For the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Aziz to blame the Election Commission chairperson for the indelible ink fiasco is just typical of our government ministers who do wants to take the rap when something goes wrong in this country.

One has to give credit to the EC chairperson who had earlier made a startling statement that he was pressured by the cabinet to stop the use of the indelible ink in the last polls but was made to take the rap when there was a public uproar over the cancellation.

To think that public funds of nearly RM2.4 million was used to buy the ink overseas but it was not used after an eleventh hour decision due to flimsily excuses by the ruling government which was afraid of losing at the polls.

It is an open secret that if the indelible ink had been used in the last elections, the ruling parties could not have used used ‘phantom voters’ to illegally tip the balance in their favour to win over marginal seats like they have always done before.

If a free and fair election had been held and the ink had been used, one tends to wonder if the present federal government would have been helmed by Pakatan Rakyat rather than the present one.

The present government cannot live in a lie. They cannot expect the people to support them at the next polls if their leaders are still involved in corrupt practices, abuse of power and other misdeeds which caused the common people to suffer. Do not treat the voters as if they are fools who cannot see or hear about all the wrongdoings of our leaders who only line their pockets while holding high office.

But the police report lodged against the prime minister, Election Commission, the IGP and the Attorney-General by two election watchdog groups is an exercise of futility as one does not expect the police or the AG’s Chambers to implicate themselves in this shameful incident. The report will gather dust just like the others before it involving the high and mighty.

With all the problems surrounding the beleaguered prime minister and with the opposition front wooing BN MPs to jump ship, one can only hope and pray that our country can be led by a strong captain who commands a good majority in Parliament in order to put right what ails our country today.

Decent Malaysians will not shed tears if those bigwigs who have practically plundered the nation’s assets pay for their crime .Nobody is above the law and if we allow these criminals to get away with their ill-gotten gains, we are no better off than any Third World country whose leaders live pompous lifestyles while the populace suffers.

The indelible ink fiasco is just the tip of the iceberg of how the present regime who had ruled the nation for more than fifty years used government machineries and the Election Commission to win elections unfairly.

Let us stop to all these charades by getting rid of the present regime who still does not get the strong message send by the voters in the last polls. The faster the present regime leaves the better for the country. We cannot expect those hands which are stained with corruption to reform themselves.

Only a new government led by Anwar Ibrahim who has made the solemn promise to lead a clean and efficient government can get us out of the malaises that affect our nation.

Pakatan Rakyat knows that time is not on their side and the people’s expectations are higher. One can only hope that come Sept 16 or earlier, a new political awakening can be seen in this blessed country of us.
