It appears that it took the BN only two months or so to recover from the intense shock of the March 8 elections. They're back to their bad old ways now, no more conciliatory noises, no more humble talk.
These days I get the feeling we've slipped back in time to the previous century and millennium, when cynicism, fear and Mahathir's heavy-hand ruled Malaysia. That's unacceptable. I feel that the vast majority of Malaysians are ready to stop hating their government and begin loving and respecting their elected leaders enough to set aside petty differences and work as one towards a glorious outcome for all.
However, each day only further reinforces the perception that the BN leaders are unworthy of love or respect. Their actions speak louder than their words. Instead of cooperating with the new parliamentary opposition and new Pakatan Rakyat state governments to reform and refurbish the machinery of governance, the BN pirates appear to be focused on only one thing and that is wresting power back by hook or by crook - national good be damned.
Instead of heeding the massive public outcry against obsolete, repressive laws and releasing all ISA detainees, BN has chosen to dig their heels in the ground and play villain by using the Sedition Act to intimidate their harshest critics.
Given a golden opportunity to sincerely reform the judiciary, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi continues to hem and haw about the findings of the royal commission of inquiry on the VK Lingam tape.
Meanwhile, the august office of the attorney-general is being used to perpetrate crimes of the first magnitude against justice, while the Royal Malaysian Police appear to be serving the vested interests of BN crony capitalists rather than the public, as can be seen in the disgraceful Grand Saga case (after all, one of Grand Saga's directors is a former high-ranking police officer).
In any case, the sore loser reaction of BN's top leaders will only convince more and more Malaysians that the BN is totally bereft of a national vision and ethical values. As such, they have disqualified themselves from being taken seriously as a legitimate government.
Indeed, one questions whether BN politicians even qualify as the parliamentary opposition - since their motives are now shown to be entirely selfish and greedy and utterly lacking in honour.
