Dear MCA president Ong Ka Ting,
I'm considered apolitical. That would be someone who isn't really interested in politics in Malaysia. Maybe because you made it so irrelevant that I couldn't be bothered to do anything about it. Although so, you made so many boo-boos that I've taken noticed.
As a leader of MCA and the Chinese people in Malaysia, you are very out of touch with reality and are not clued in on the future. I can't imagine how you can lead your party, let alone the Chinese people as a whole.
Even more, I can't imagine you leading anyone from other ethnic groups or just people in general. I worry for all of us. Firstly, I find the BN or MCA-endorsed ‘journalism’ irritating and the first proof of your irrelevance.
You are not being a visionary at all. Why are you telling the people what you have done? We are not that stupid and blind. We want to know what you are going to do next. We want to know that there is hope for tomorrow. It's the future that is important.
Secondly, I don't understand why the MCA team that was proposed for the March 8 election was changed before the polls. Your supposed strategy of fielding ‘new, young, professional and fresh-perspective’ candidates only made matters worse.
I don't even know half the people you fielded and to top that, they all have no personality whatsoever to compensate for that weakness. Your ‘superstardom leadership’ could have rubbed off on them but you obviously have not got enough to start with.
If you continue on this course, I'm afraid that you are not doing the Chinese people of Malaysia any good. As a leader, you should be a visionary. You should also stay relevant. Juggling both is tough but I have only this to say to you: too bad, it's your job.
If you have even half an ounce of vision, you would be able to command the followers within the party and the Chinese people of Malaysia. Don't blame the Chinese people of Malaysia for dictating your mandate. You just don't have the vision. If you do, you would do the following:
- Convince the population that the most important aspect of our lives is the future;
- The future is not about making sure that we (elected reps) clean the drains efficiently only because anyone with half a brain can do it;
- The future is about what we have in store for our sons and daughters and the grandchildren hereafter;
- It is your job to teach the population that complaining about the drains not being clean though no doubt important, is lesser in priority;
- It is your job to tell the population that clean drains will not lead to great health, wealth and wisdom for the Chinese sons and daughters and grandchildren of Malaysia in the future.
What happened to vision with passion? All I see is myopia with senseless pride. Even your supposed new dynamic team came without the chutzpah. What dynamism was there? They didn't look like they had vision or knew where to go. It's obvious that they took the cue from you as the leader; the cue to be lost.
If you really cared for the Chinese population of Malaysia, please have a vision, please stay relevant (forget about pride) and please go up to every single Chinese and tell them to vote for the future. Don't vote for themselves, vote for their sons and daughters, vote for their grandchildren - this provided that MCA under your leadership even has a vision of the future to start with.
Lastly, congratulations to your brother for his promotion in the party. He may be very strong in some parts of the country but he may not be in other parts of the country. I really don't know if this will go down well with many people. It just seems so dynastic and it is the last thing we need right now – the impression that you want to do good for the party by quitting but at the same time refusing to let go through your brother.
These are my two sen. And it is worth so only because you apparently managed to keep the inflation rate low. Again, I want to know how much my two sen can get tomorrow.
