Get Sarawak, Sabah parties to join us

I was watching the TV3 eight o’clock news just now, the first time I was doing so in almost two weeks and found that the tone and demeanor of the BN people, especially Umno unchanged after being handed their worst defeat ever. What is totally disgusting is that none of the BN leaders seem to acknowledge the success of PKR-DAP-PAS (PDP) coalition. Either they are suffering from a head-in-the-sand syndrome or deliberately thumbing their noses at us, the people who had overwhelming voted the PDP coalition. They don’t seem to get the message that the people are tired of their politics, governance and arrogance.

I think we need to send another message now, rather than next week, next month or the next election. I don’t know if this is feasible but it’s worth a try and I wish to open a discussion around the blogs with a view to get this idea off the ground. With 82 seats won, wouldn’t it be possible for the PDP coalition to talk to the Sarawak parties to hop onboard and form a broader coalition government? The Sarawak parties have 30 seats between them and added to the 82 in the PDP coalition’s bag, a simple majority of 112 seats CAN be achieved.

If the PDP coalition is successful in forming a government, the cleanup process that the people are clamouring for can begin in earnest without having to wait another day, month or until a win is procured at the next election which is a story for another day.

The following is a list of 10 urgent actions that the people expect immediately:

1. Probe the 2008 election results for Terengganu. The bucking of the trend in Terengganu is fishy and I believe there is more to it than meets the eye.

2. Release all ISA detainees immediately and repeal the ISA at the earliest and I am sure some in the BN will support this move. Non-partisanship in Parliament is a hallmark of a mature democracy.

3.Cleanup of the Judiciary by appointing a neutral CJ with impeccable record.

4. Send the current AG back to wherever he came from and replace him with someone who is untainted and not politically connected.

5. Immediately put the ACA under parliament and removing the current DG.

6. Replace the IGP with someone else. The person for the job I think is the former Commercial Crimes Director who appeared to have been charged out of a vendetta and who has the guts to fight the establishment all on his own.

7. Reopen the ACA investigations into the top government officials including deputy ministers and the IGP.

8. Review all concession agreements with the toll operators and renegotiate their terms to reflect traffic volume realities.

9. Make Petronas answerable to Parliament and make it incumbent of them to table their accounts to Parliament. Use some of their profits to offset the subsidies for oil prices to be reduced.

10. Remove the EC chairperson.

Also, with a new government, we can work at changing the editors of all the newspapers and TV stations and wipe the face of arrogance from the airwaves for good. Then we can all watch TV again.
