'Malaysia Boleh' is becoming increasingly an embarrassment to all Malaysians and this latest expose of embezzlement of school repair funds takes the cake. Now that the facts are out, where should the red faces be?

How can the education minister apologise on behalf of his ministry when he hasn't even checked his facts, and how can the minister in charge of Public Works Department not have checked his facts as it was under his portfolio? Who is really running this government and our tax funds?

And how dare the Umno Youth deputy leader blow so much hot air over racial matters when he has absolutely no facts to back him? Shouldn't he now be man enough to apologise? If he doesn't, it reflects very badly on him as a politician. And don't give that crap about never apologising for race and religion. Even the Pope has to apologise.

It makes me wish that taxpayers can protest by not paying taxes till we know they are using our hard-earned money legally. It also makes me wonder whether there is a deliberate agenda to run down vernacular schools?

Has the government realised that they owe a debt to the Chinese educationists and the Chinese community? These Malaysians have doggedly carried on with maintaining the existence of Chinese education despite the lackluster assistance from government tax coffers and unreasonable obstructions from government policies.

Today, with the emergence of China as a dominant economic powerhouse, it seems everyone wants to learn Chinese and everyone wants to employ bilingual executives to do business with the mainland Chinese. Where does that put our Chinese-speaking graduates? At a great advantage.

Furthermore, we should not forget that when the rest of the world had not yet woken up to the economic miracle that was brewing in China, our Malaysian Chinese-speaking businessmen had already started business links with mainland China.

It would be a good policy to maintain the Chinese schools for not only future generations of Malaysians but also for the sake of our economy. Let us not lose our historical advantage to the rest of the world.

That is why I get so angry reading about the misuse of funds meant to repair Kung Yu primary school. We need to maintain our Chinese schools and encourage more schools which will keep the Chinese language alive and a living tool. There are about 65,000 non-Chinese children in Chinese schools. I salute their parents for being so farsighted.

I am hoping this fiasco will make the government alert and vigilant about the channeling of funds meant for vernacular schools.
