With regards to the proposed RM490 million Malaysian sports academy in Britain, I would like to say that there is no justification whatsoever to embark on such a wasteful project.
Rich countries like New Zealand and Australia do not have such academies outside of their own countries. When they do send the athletes abroad to train either in the Northern Hemispshere or elsewhere, they often rent local facilities.
I wonder whether the proposer for this project is taking into account the annual funds required to keep the academy functioning the maintenance, staff cost, council rates, etc.
May I suggest that these monies alone would be more than enough to send our elite athletes to train in any facility anywhere in the world. This would also allow the athletes to acclimatise in any corner of the world and in country where important sporting events are to be staged at that particular point of time.
