I refer to the article Mickey-Mousing Malaysia
Disney have built theme parks in two of the most culturally protectionist countries in the world, ie, Japan and France successfully. Have the French and the Japanese sold out? Definitely not.
Has Disney culturally colonised the French and the Japanese? Far from it.
Disney did not displace their cultures, in fact, Disney had to adapt to the local cultures within which it operates. If one has been to these parks, one would see what I mean.
Disney is no longer the preserve of the US, it has become a global product. If Disney is acceptable to the French and Japanese, it is most definitely acceptable for Malaysians.
In addition, the economic benefits would be immense. I welcome wholeheartedly the potential arrival of Mickey on the shores of Johor.
