LETTER | As the nomination day for the Port Dickson parliamentary approaches, it is becoming clearer that Anwar Ibrahim will in all likelihood on the Oct 13 polling day.

It is understandable that certain prospective candidates have indicated that they will be putting themselves out there to make a principled statement against political entitlement.

For that, kudos to you Stevie Chan.

For some, they have indicated that they will stay away from the polls altogether. But I personally think that they, unlike Chan, are fearful of Anwar.

In the end, let us look at those who matter the most, the voters themselves. Because apparently candidates and elected representatives are dispensible and interchangeable.

In my humble opinion, the best way to save the Port Dickson voters their time and energy, and at the same time create a bigger impact on the stand against political entitlement, is to just let Anwar go to the nomination centre this Saturday on his own, nominate himself without any other competitors, and take over the seat without any competition.

This would not amount to a 'win' in anyone's books. It's a swap at most.

Anwar would not be elected by the people of Port Dickson, and that he will be dogged with the stigma as he walks into the Dewan Rakyat.

This would be his own doing.

However, it would amount to a moral win for the other prospective candidates.

The other prospective candidates should, in my opinion, make a press statement that they will be not nominating themselves this Saturday for the benefit of the Port Dickson voters and also to save taxpayer money.

This is a 'win' in anyone's books.

This is not a boycott to show objection against Anwar, but rather a decision made taking into account the welfare and the resources of the people of Port Dickson and Malaysia as a whole.
