I agree with A Malaysian Forever with regards to this housing scheme discount issue. Years ago, when I was about to buy my first house, I was greeted with the same blatant discrimination. Since that incident, I've seen that all properties advertised in the newspapers have such a small print X percent discount for bumiputeras, regardless of the type of property being sold.

If this is a scheme to help the lower-income group, I wouldn't be so upset. The fact that this scheme is applied based on ethnicity is simply revolting. I have to toil and work hard to buy my own home. Why am I made to subsidise my bumi neighbour just because our skin colours are different?

Half of my pay goes to repay the bank with hardly any savings left. We are all born and bred here in Malaysia, are law abiding, and pay our taxes too. But why am I made to feel like a second- class citizen in my own country? Just because my ancestor came from another land? No wonder I stopped celebrating Merdeka years ago.

I hope those in power take a long and hard look at all these racist policies before accusing the non-bumis of being unpatriotic. My sense of patriotism has been going down the drain since the day I found out that there are actually two classes of people in Malaysia - the bumis and the non-bumis. And I belong to the latter group.
