The letter by Jomo KS describes perfectly what is the problem with the Malaysian media especially malaysiakini . Malaysiakini was started as a forum for everyone to discuss important matters freely and fairly instead of them being swept under the carpet or being given a political spin.

Unfortunately, it has not lived up to its expectation as it focus has always been to sensationalise issues rather than to look at the big picture. What is even worse is that it has - intentionally or otherwise - tried to put a racial spin to all important issues.

It is time we Malaysians learn that the quicker we get away from looking at things from the racial angle the better. Perfect examples are the Edmund Terence Gomez and Crimea State Medical University issues.

The reason for this is the fact that the grandmasters in playing the 'race card game' are Umno, MIC and the MCA. History has shown if we go along that route, then there is 'no contest' when it comes to deciding who the winner will be

I would also like to applaud Jomo for clarifying the matter and how steadfastly he had stuck to his principle of non-interference in the management of the universities. We only have to look at the circus that goes on each time a vice-chancellor's term comes to an end. It only degrades the honour, dignity and the importance of the post.
