Father OC Lim is absolutely right in protesting against the exclusion of Christmas carols which contain the name Jesus.
Any Christian worth his salt would know that without Jesus, there would be no Christianity. One does not need to be a theologian or a rocket scientist to recognise this fundamental truth.
Therefore, if a Christian gathering were to avoid using the name of Jesus, that gathering cannot in any language be accepted as a Christian gathering. It is amazing that in this day and age, we have so-called Christians who feel ashamed at the use of Jesus' name or that its use would create religious disharmony.
It is also to be queried as who it is that decided that the official guests would feel offended if they hear lyrics with the word Jesus while they are gracing the national-level Christmas celebration in PJ on Dec 25. Jesus is not unknown to the Muslim religion.
To presume that the dignitaries would be offended is totally uncalled for. These dignitaries are some of the best statesmen that Malaysia has ever produced and they cannot be said to be so narrow-minded or to be so easily converted, if that is the fear.
To resolve the issue, why don't the organisers actually ask the official guests whether they mind listening to Christmas carols containing the name Jesus. I am sure the answer you will get will be a resounding 'no' as our leaders are not so narrow-minded as to not know what is right and good or that there is more than one religion in the world.
