Mr Prime Minister,
Lives of many Selangor residents have been bulldozed by the decision to build the Damansara Shah Alam Expressway (Dash) over thousands of homes and the lackadaisical attitude and approach by those responsible who expect us to accept their profit-making decision at our expense.
We seek your help, Mr Prime Minister, to understand why the government supports national projects that are detrimental to the rakyat?
And why has the government invested billions building a world-class MRT system and at the same time contradict itself by spending billions more on mega super highways to add to traffic on the streets?
We applaud your decision to enhance our public transportation system with the MRT and so we were utterly shocked when we found out that Prolintas has been contracted to build a mega highway along the same route as the MRT!
Isn't this redundant and counterproductive to having the MRT in the first place? This must be an oversight.
As such, we would like to bring your attention to the alignment along Mutiara Damansara and Damansara Perdana in particular where the elevated six-lane highway will be built along our backyards and in front of condominiums.
We plead your help to convince Prolintas realign their route because:
- The highway was never in the masterplan when we bought the property. We are here first.
- The implication on the quality of life in our serene neighbourhood will be compromised ie dust, noise pollution, etc.
- Potential damage to our houses during construction.
- Once the highway is operational and due to the proximity and elevation, there is a high possibility that vehicles will crash into our homes if there is an accident.
- The value of our houses/condominiums will depreciate with this highway just next to it
Mr Prime Minister, we are average families who work very hard to afford our homes.
We have just moved in for two years and are now forced to face worrying about the safety of our children even when they are at home.
When we met Prolintas, the Selangor and Highway Authorities, we were told that there is another alignment that doesn't affect residential areas and yet they have the audacity to admit that it will be too hard in terms of timeline and investment for them to realign.
You are our last resort Mr Prime Minister. We seek your assistance to understand if "too hard" is the best answer the rakyat can get in the eye of development by the government.
We seek your compassion to understand how this will have detrimental effects on our daily lives and those of our children.
We seek your help to resolute realignment from Prolintas as no one in the Selangor Government has the authority that you do. We believe if there is anyone who can, it will be you.
We understand you receive many requests every day to enable change and we pray you will single ours out.
We have tried many avenues to reach you and if you choose to make this change then you would have won our vote as the People's Leader.
I am sure all residents affected along the route of DASH and thousands of residents in our area who have already signed the petition would agree.
