Shazryl Eskay Abdullah dared Anwar Ibrahim to take the sumpah laknat (an oath) on his innocence together with him after Friday prayers today. He also invited those “who doubt the truth” to witness the ceremony at the Amru Al-As mosque in Bandar Baru Sentul.

If the oath taking is to be accepted as the person being truthful and honest then it will be a cost-effective and cost-efficient method of settling cases as there will be no need to have any courts or judges or lawyers or police and investigative agencies and the thousands of administrative staff.

There will be no need for calling of witnesses and loss of working hours which will contribute to higher productivity. It will also result in fast dispensation of justice.

This will save the taxpayers hundreds of millions annually. Of course there will be loss of jobs for those involved.

Government should seriously consider oath taking to dispense justice. However those in authority and relevant knowledge/expertise should clarify as to how the dispute will be settled if both parties were to take the oath as punishment from the Almighty may come much later or after death.

There is no malice in the above comments but perhaps religion should not be brought in any disputes in the present time.
