I cannot believe that despite the numerous calls over the years from all sectors of the Malaysian society to S Samy Vellu to step down, he is still adamant about holding on to the MIC president's post. Practically everything is stacked against him to the point that he has been now been labelled as a liability to the ruling coalition government and yet he is not bothered.
Why is Samy Vellu still not willing to let go of his president's post in MIC? Any normal and wise leader will by now would have stepped aside graciously and spent time with his loved ones and grandchildren. It is apparent after observing Samy's actions and flip-flop activities within the MIC that he is suffering from some kind of a phobia.
Probably Samy and his supporters in MIC are not aware of it. According to medical experts, they refer to people like Samy as suffering from personality disorder. If it is not treated in time it may lead to serious psychiatric problems. Perhaps the MIC may be prepared to face the consequences of its leader with such problems but not the general public.
Samy reminds me of the fate of the late ex-president of Singapore Devan Nair who was sacked from his post for his alcohol-linked mental disorder. It will be sad to note one of these days, Samy may face somewhat similar situation if he refuses to step down.
The country, especially the BN government, cannot afford to bear any more setbacks. Datuk Seri Samy, you haven given your best, for heaven's sake, please step down immediately and pave the way for the new MIC team to chart a new course for the party.
