Malaysiakini welcomes letters from its readers. The following are some guidelines for those wishing to contribute to the Letters to the Editor forum:
Edited for clarity
All letters will be edited for content, clarity and conciseness. Letter writers can help contribute to a faster publication of their missives by ensuring that repetitiveness, bad grammar, poor sentence construction and superfluousness is kept to a bare minimum. Length of your epistles is no guarantee for publication and may work contrary to the aim.
Using pseudonyms
Writers may write under a pseudonym if they so wish. Please note that while we support the use of pseudonyms we are guided by a set of principles - that pseudonyms should not be 'vulgar' and that they should not purportedly be written by another person, e.g. 'Mahathir Mohamad', 'Lee Kuan Yew' or any well-known person.
Guarantee of confidentiality
Malaysiakini extends a guarantee of confidentiality to all letter writers in that real identities and e-mail addresses will not be revealed to a third party unless and until prior consent has been obtained.
Professional ethics
While Malaysiakini is an independent media, this doesn't mean immunity from the nation's laws or a rejection of professional ethics. As such, letters which are slanderous, defamatory, offensive, and containing baseless accusations will not be entertained.
Letters in English and BM
Letters may be written in either English or Bahasa Malaysia. You may
even write your letters in Chinese. For English and BM language letters, please
email them to editor@malaysiakini.com. For Chinese language letters, send them
to chinese-editor@malaysiakini.com.
Not all will be published
While, Malaysiakini will endeavour to publish as many letters as possible, we cannot guarantee that all letters received will be selected for publication nor can we be held responsible for any omissions. Due to volume and related factors, some letters may be held back for publication at a later date.
Guardian of the domain
Malaysiakini positions its Letters to the Editor section as a premier platform for Malaysians to voice their opinions on a wide variety of issues which affect and concern all of us. In this respect all letter writers are indirect guardians of this domain and we do hope that you will embrace this responsibility with due care, diligence and enthusiasm.
